EDMOND, Okla. – The 13th-ranked Angelo State women's tennis team fell in the semi finals of the ITA Indoor National Championship, losing to 14th-ranked Southern Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Edmond Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Belles will now play the third-place game on Sunday against Central Oklahoma.
Angelo State fell behind early as Southern Baptist earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina won their doubles match at No. 1 7-5.
Gonzalez continued her success into singles play winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at No.1. Also winning was Dianela Rodriguez at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4), and Virginie Becht at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2).
The Belles will play Central Oklahoma tomorrow at 5:45 p.m., with the winner earning third-place in the indoor championship.
