SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team remained perfect at home on Tuesday as the Rams defeated St. Edward's 12-3 in a non-conference game at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams have won 11 straight games at home, improving to 15-2 overall and 10-2 in the Lone Star Conference while the Hilltoppers fall to 5-10 on the season.
Both pitching staffs started well as neither team could get a runner across home plate through three innings of play. At the top of the fourth, the Hilltoppers struck first, getting two runners on base due to errors by ASU before hitting a two-RBI double to center field. SEU added another run off a single to right field, taking a 3-0 lead.
The lead didn't last long for the Hilltoppers who gave up four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Thomas Cain singled with a bunt to score
Aaron Walters, followed by a double from
Jackson Hardy and a two-RBI shot by Nick Novak to give the Rams the advantage.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, tossing two innings with allowing zero hits with three walks.
Carson Childers picked up the decision to improve to 3-0 on the season, tossing 3 2/3 innings while giving up no hits or walks with six strikeouts.
The Rams poured on the scoring in the eighth inning, hitting back-to-back RBI doubles from
Koby Kelton and Hardy for the first two runs. Novak tallied another RBI with a single to left field followed by a hit from
Jordan Williams and another double, this time by
Nick Seginowich. ASU tallied three more runs in the inning, collecting eight runs total, to go up 12-3.
Cain and Novak each finished with three hits while Novak collected three RBIs and Cain and Hardy both finished with two. Four other Rams batters each collected one RBI on the day.
The Rams will now travel south this weekend as they return to LSC play with a three-game series against Texas A&M – Kingsville beginning Friday.
