LUBBOCK, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team tallied its 10th consecutive win on Saturday, defeating Lubbock Christian 7-1 in the second game of the series at Hays Field.
With the win, the Rams clinch the series against the Chaps and improve to 11-1 overall, and 7-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
After three scoreless innings, the Rams finally got on the board, scoring four runs in the fourth inning. Lubbock Christian loaded the bases with three walks and a hit-by-pitch before Jordan Williams forced a walk for the first run of the game. Nick Novak hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in the second run while a two-RBI single by Jackson Hardy gave the Rams a 4-0 advantage.
The Chaps took one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning with back-to-back hits, singling to right center before a double down the left field line made it 4-1.
Bebjamin Elder earned the decision today, picking up his third straight win of the season while giving up only his second earned run, going six innings with nine hits, one run and six strikeouts. Pitching in relief was Carson Childers who finished with four hits in three innings with four strikeouts.
Angelo State added two more runs in the sixth inning as Thomas Cain grounded out to first base, scoring Novak while Hardy scored on a wild pitch, making it 6-1 in favor of the Rams. ASU added one final run in the ninth as Josh Elvir scored from third base after a pickle play at second.
Hardy tallied three hits on the day with two RBIs while Elvir and Cain each collected two hits. Elvir came around to score twice and earned two walks on the day.
The Rams and Chaps will finish up the series at Hays Field tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
