Rambelles Sweep Dustdevils in Doubleheader, 3-2 and 14-0

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team swept the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in their doubleheader on Friday, winning the first game 3-2, and the second game 14-0. ASU moves to a 23-10 record overall and a 15-7 conference record.

Game One Results:
Makayla Corbin began the first game for ASU as she went three up and three out in the top of the second inning as two Dustdevil batters grounded out to the third baseman and the final out of the inning came from a fly out to the center fielder to give ASU another chance in the box to get their bats going.

TAMIU took an early 1-0 lead over the Blue and Gold in the top of the third inning after smashing a solo home run over the left field fence, but that would be the only run they would score as the final out came from a fly ball out to center field to bring ASU back to the batters box.

The Rambelles tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Madison Fernandez hit a single into deep center field, where Haylie Mitchell came in to pinch run for Fernandez. Mitchell quickly stole second shortly afterwards as Keilei Garcia smacked a single into left field, scoring Mitchell for an RBI.

With bases loaded in the top of the fifth and two outs, Corbin and the Rambelles steeled their nerves and registered the third out as the batter grounded out to the pitcher to bring the Blue and Golds offense back out.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mykayla Stroud walked and advanced to second as Ashlyn Lerma grounded out to the third baseman, advancing to third and into scoring position on a passed ball. Ashlynn Box hit a sacrifice fly out to the left fielder to bring Stroud home as Angelo State took their first lead of the night at 2-1.

The Dustdevils quickly responded to tie the game back up at 2-2 after smashing a home run over the left field fence again. Corbin struck one batter out looking for the second out of the inning, while a grounder to the third baseman ended the top of the sixth inning to bring ASU back to the batters box.

Genesis Armendariz came in to pitch relief for Corbin in the top of the seventh, striking one batter out swinging in the seventh and two batters swinging in the eighth to end the innings for Angelo State.

Courtney Barnhill walked to begin the top of the eighth inning, stealing second shortly afterwards as Fernandez came up to bat for the Rambelles. Fernandez smacked a single to left field, scoring Barnhill from second and ending the first game in favor of the Rambelles, 3-2.
