Rambelles Sweep Dustdevils in Three Game Series for Senior Day

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelles defeated the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Senior Day, 10-1, in a non-conference game after run ruling the Dustdevils for the second time this weekend. The Rambelles are now 24-10 overall with a 15-7 conference record.
 
Senior Victoria Vasquez kicked things off in the top of the first as she struck two batters out swinging for the fences to bring ASU to bat for the first time.
 
Ashlyn Lerma reached first on a bunt single, beating the throw and stealing second shortly afterwards as Ashlynn Box came up to bat for the Blue and Gold. Box smacked a single past the second baseman to reach first and put Lerma in scoring position at third. Courtney Barnhill stepped up to bat for Angelo State, making it to first on a fielders choice as Lerma scored the first run of the game and Box was thrown out at second.
 
Barnhill stole second as Fernandez stepped up to the plate for the first time, where she hit a single into left field, scoring Barnhill from second to bring ASU to an early 2-0 lead over the Dustdevils in the bottom of the first.
 
With two outs in the top of the third, Texas A&M International scored their only run of the game after a single was hit into deep center field, cutting the Rambelles lead in half, 2-1. Angelo States defense buckled down and secured the final out on a fly ball out to the left fielder.
 
Box smacked a single up the middle of the field, stealing second shortly afterwards as Barnhill was walked. Keilei Garcia smashed a double into deep center field over the center fielders head to register two RBI as both Box and Barnhill crossed the plate to score two runs and bring ASU to a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third.
 
Jade Strother stepped up to bat for Angelo State as Garcia advanced to third and into scoring position after a wild pitch. Strother walked to bring Hatty Shope up to bat for the Rambelles, where she hit a single to the shortstop and beating the throw to score Garcia and give the Blue and Gold a 5-1 lead over TAMIU.
 
Lerma was walked in the bottom of the fourth to kick off the Rambelles offense as Box came up to bat. Box smashed a double into center field to score Lerma and extend the Rambelles lead to five over the Dustdevils, 6-1. Barnhill also smashed a double, but into left field, scoring Box and growing ASUs lead to 7-1 over TAMIU.
 
Garcia smacked a single up the middle of the field to advance Fernandez to second and registered another RBI as Barnhill crossed the plate once again to bring the Rambelles lead to 8-1 over International. Strother reached first on a fielders choice as Avery Ziegler, pinch running for Garcia, was thrown out at second while Fernandez advanced to third and scoring position. Strother advanced to second on an error by the Dustdevils and Fernandez scored a run for the Rambelles, 9-1.
 
Strother scored the final run of the game after Shope was thrown out a first to bring ASU to a 10-1 lead over the Dustdevils leading into the top of the fifth inning.
 
Paxton Scheurer, pitching in relief of Vasquez, and the Rambelle defense put an end to the Dustdevils attempts to score any more runs in the top of the fifth as two outs came from grounders to the pitcher and to the shortstop and stopped any attempts at putting runners into scoring position at third. The final out of the game came as a grounder to the second baseman and thrown to the shortstop covering second base to bring ASU victory over the Dustdevils as the Rambelles run ruled TAMIU, 10-1.
