SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 11
th ranked Angelo State women's tennis team tallied its first Lone Star Conference win at home this season, defeating St. Mary's 5-2 on Friday at the ASU Tennis Courts.
The Belles improve to 8-3 overall on the season in dual play and 3-0 in Lone Star matches while the Rattlers drop to 11-4, 3-1 LSC.
Angelo State jumped out to an early lead, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the point and a 1-0 advantage.
After the Rattlers tied the match,
Zoe Gubbels regained the lead with a victory at the No. 5 spot, winning 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets. Also winning was
Valentina Gonzalez at No. 1, holding on to 6-4, 7-6 victory while
Maria Delgadillo completed the comeback, winning 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4.
Closing out the match was
Virginie Becht who hung on to win in three sets, defeating her opponent 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
The Belles continue action at home tomorrow as they host Texas A&M – Kingsville at 1 p.m.
