Belles Host Semifinal Round Against St. Edward's on Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 12th-ranked Angelo State women's soccer team continues the 2021 Lone Star Conference Spring Championship on Saturday as the Belles host St. Edward's in the semifinals at 7 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Belles advanced in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, scoring late to defeat St. Mary's 1-0 at home. ASU's defense remained impenetrable, allowing only three shots while recording its third straight shutout. Emily Keoughan scored the game-winner in the 81st minute, taking a cross from Nelah Coleman.

ALL-TIME SERIES: SEU leads the all-time series 13-6-2. Last Meeting: ASU, 3-0
ASU has found recent success against the Hilltoppers, winning the last four consecutive meetings. The Belles are already 2-0 this season against SEU, winning 1-0 on the road and 3-0 at home. ASU has outscored the Hilltoppers 7-1 in the last four matches.
 
SCOUTING ST. EDWARD'S:
After a rough start to the season, the Hilltoppers have turned things around, winning four straight matches to head into Saturday's contest with a 5-4 overall record. SEU started the tournament in the opening round against UT Permian Basin, defeating the Falcons at home 3-0.
 
In the quarterfinals, SEU pulled off the upset on the road, winning 2-1 against Lubbock Christian while goalkeeper Meghan Dunning recorded nine saves, facing 22 shots total. Tied 1-1, SEU found the game-winning goal in the final six minutes to play to advance in the tournament.
 
The Hilltoppers have outscored opponents 11-1 in the last four matches while earning three straight shutouts before allowing the goal against the Lady Chaps. SEU ranks fifth in the league in goals scored with 15 on the season.
 
#RAMEM:
The Belles defense remains as one of the best in the country, tallying their sixth shutout of the season against St. Mary's. ASU has not allowed a goal since Mar. 17 when they defeated the Rattlers 2-1 in overtime on the road. The only other goal allowed all season was back in February as the Belles defeated Lubbock Christian 3-1 at home.
