ARLINGTON, Texas – The ninth-ranked Angelo State women's tennis team defeated Texas A&M – Kingsville in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis National Championship, winning 4-0 at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Belles will face St. Mary's for a South-Central Regional Championship tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Angelo State scored an early point, winning two doubles matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots as
Zoe Gubbels and
Virginie Becht won 6-1 followed by a 6-2 win by
Anna Schneemann and
Maria Delgadillo.
In singles play, Becht continued her success with her seventh straight win, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
Valentina Gonzalez made quick work at the No. 1 spot, winning 6-1, 6-3 while
Dianela Rodriguez scored the final point for ASU, winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 as the Belles clinched the dual with four straight points.
