Rams Defeated Lubbock Christian to Open Week Two of the LSC Championship Tournament

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The fifth-ranked Angelo State baseball team toppled Lubbock Christian in week two of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament, defeating the Chaps 15-3 on Thursday night at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

The Rams improve to 38-6 overall on the season and will advance in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Lubbock Christian struck first, hitting a solo home run in the top of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead.

The Rams quickly answered, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning as Josh Elvir and Aaron Walters came around on a throwing error by the catcher while Jordan Williams drove in another run with a single to second base.

The Chaps and Rams both scored a run in the second inning as LCU hit its second home run of the game, a solo shot to left-center, while Nick Seginowich forced a bases-loaded walk as ASU took a 4-2 advantage.

The Rams opened the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning as Walters hit a two-RBI double left-center. Nicholas Novak followed that up with a double of his own, hitting down the right-field line as Elvir and Walters crossed the plate. Parker Bramlett tallied another run with a groundout to third base to give ASU a 9-2 lead.

LCU's third and final run came off another solo home run, this time a shot to left field in the top of the fifth.

Trent Baker tallied his 13th win of the season, tossing seven innings of work with six hits and three earned runs. He finished with six strikeouts, moving his career total to 278 strikeouts and setting a new program and Lone Star Conference career record.

The Rams added two more runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh as Walters tallied his third RBI of the game.

Angelo State continues the LSC Tournament in the winner's bracket tomorrow, facing St. Mary's at 3 p.m., at Foster Field.
