CARY, N.C. – The Angelo State baseball finished a historic run at the NCAA Division II National Championship, falling 8-7 to Wingate in the semifinals of the tournament on Friday at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
The Rams finish the season 44-9 overall, advancing the farthest the program has ever gone in the College World Series.
Both teams found a run in the first inning of the game, as the Bulldogs started things off with an RBI single to right-center.
ASU answered back in the top of the inning as Nick Seginowich singled through the left side to score Josh Elvir. The Rams took the lead in the second inning as singled to score Parker Bramlett to go up 2-1.
Wingate regained control, scoring two runs in the third and three in the fourth to go up 6-2. Three runs came off of wild pitches and another on a throwing error from the outfield.
The Rams got one run back in the sixth inning as Koby Kelton hit a triple to left-center to bring home Jordan Williams.
Trent Baker started on the mound for the Rams, tossing 5 2/3 innings with six runs, three earned, off of nine hits. Aaron Munson took the loss, throwing four innings of relief with three hits, one run, and six strikeouts.
The Bulldogs added another run in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch to go up 7-3.
The Rams began their comeback in the eighth inning as Elvir hit a two-RBI single down the right-field line, while in the ninth, Bramlett scored two on a single to left field to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th inning, the Bulldogs took the lead on a sac-fly to center field to score the eventual game-winner.
Elvir finished the game with three RBIs off of four hits while Bramlett collected two RBIs and Kelton and Williams each had three hits.
