CARY, N.C. – The third-seeded Rams held on to a win in the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championship, defeating second-seed Seton Hill 9-4 at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
The Rams extended their winning streak to nine games as they improve to 44-7 overall on the year to remain in the winner's bracket.
After two scoreless innings by both teams, Aaron Walters got things going for the Rams, hitting an RBI single up the middle to score Parker Bramlett for the first run of the game. Moments later, Nick Seginowich singled to left field, bringing in Josh Elvir to give ASU a 2-0 lead.
Scoring continued for the Rams who jumped ahead 6-0 after scoring four runs in the fourth inning. Bramlett led off with an RBI single while Elvir hit a two-RBI shot to left field followed by another single from Seginowich.
Mat Szabo started on the mound for ASU, tossing 4 2/3 innings with only two runs off of three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.
The Griffins two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three off bases-loaded walks while scoring their fourth run off a wild pitch to make it 6-4.
Angelo State put the game away in the eighth inning as Elvir and Seginowich continued to see the ball well, hitting an RBI double and a two-RBI single respectively, to make it 9-4 in favor of the Rams.
Carson Childers earned the win for the Rams, throwing 3 1/3 innings in relief to improve to 9-0 overall on the season. He allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out five.
Seginowich finished with a team-high four RBIs while Elvir tallied three and Bramlett collected three hits on the night.
The Rams will now play on Thursday, June 10th, facing the winner of Seton Hill vs. Wingate who both suffered a loss by the Rams.
