SAN ANGELO – The Belles Soccer team plays their final non-conference matchup of the regular season on Saturday when they host New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at the ASU Soccer Field.
The Cowgirls are 0-1 on the season, with a 4-1 road loss to fellow Lone Star school Lubbock Christian. Under head coach
Travis McCorkle, the Belles are 6-0-1 against the Cowgirls, with the Belles winning 6-0 the last time these two teams met in 2019.
The Cowgirls' Valeria Baca is their lone goal scorer on the season, scoring on a penalty kick in their lone match versus the Lady Chaparrals.
The Belles are 4-0 on the season, having outscored their opposition 12-2 on the season, as well as out-shooting opponents 68-20 through four matches.
The Belles are third in the country in assists, with 13 on the season, averaging 3.25 per game.
Avery McNeme has been the largest contributor to that number, with a nation-leading five assists on the season. The senior midfielder has also scored twice and is the current reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week.
Right behind her, tied for second in the country in assists, is teammate
Valerie Solis. The junior has had at least one assist in three of four matches this season.
Defensively, the Belles have been led by senior
Kira Miller in goal. Having played every single minute this season, the shot stopper has nine saves on the season, having only allowed two goals. For her career, Miller has 199 career saves, as well as 29 wins and 18 shutouts.
After this match, the Belles are back in action on Wednesday in San Antonio to open conference play against St. Mary's.
