Men's Basketball Drops LSC Contest to DBU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team split on the weekend, dropping a Lone Star Conference matchup to DBU with an 82-69 loss at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Rams move to 11-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
 
Paul Williams led three ASU players who totaled double figures in points, finishing with 20 points while shooting 6-of-9 from the field and making five three-pointers.
 
The Patriots got off to a strong start, hitting three straight threes to go up 9-2 before going up 26-12 midway through the half. The Rams used a 10-2 run to cut the lead to six points before heading into the halftime break down 37-24.
 
DBU shot 50 percent from the field in the game while the Rams finished with a shooting percentage of 41 percent. The Patriots edged out ASU in rebounds, 35 to 33, and turnovers, allowing 17 to 20 from the Rams.
 
After trading buckets to start the second half, DBU took their largest lead of the game after a three-pointer made it 58-40 with 9:37 to play.
 
The Rams continued to fight back, using a 15-4 run which included two threes by Williams, to cut the lead to only seven points at 62-55.
 
Lathaniel Bastian collected a double-double on the night with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Tyrell Carroll added 13 points of his own along with three steals.
 
DBU continued to find a way to score, keeping the lead in favor of the Patriots before closing out the game with four straight free throws.
 
The Rams will go back on the road next week as they continue LSC action at West Texas A&M and Cameron beginning Thursday, Jan. 20.
