Lawton, Okla. – The Angelo State women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the calendar year this afternoon to Cameron, 100-68.
The Aggies jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter, their largest lead of the opening frame; the hosts shot 55.1 percent for the game, including 62.5 percent in the second half. The Belles shot 39.3 percent from the field for the game.
Cameron's Maighan Hedge, the nation's third-leading scorer, led all players with 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor.
Four players for the Belles scored in double-digits, led by
Blakely Gerber's 17 points.
Sawyer Lloyd scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor while
Madeline Stephens and
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant added 12 points each, with McGhee-Pleasant grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
Belles' point guard
Payton Brown was responsible for nine of the team's 18 assists on the day; her nine assists tie a season high for the Lubbock native.
The Belles are now 5-10 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. They are next scheduled to play on Thursday at home against defending national champions Lubbock Christian.
