The third-ranked Angelo State football team returns home this weekend as they continue Lone Star Conference play against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 8, at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
 
 
DEFENSE REIGNS IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST:
Making one of their longest trips of the season, the Rams defeated Western Oregon 30-7 last week, allowing only 180 yards of total offense in the process. ASU's defense finished with three sacks and three interceptions, bringing their season total of takeaways to 10.

The Rams hold a slight advantage in the all-time series against the Greyhounds, winning nine of the 14 matchups. Last season, the Rams pulled away with a road victory, defeating ENMU 59-7 while tallying 489 yards of total offense.
 
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS:
  • The Greyhounds enter the weekend with a 1-4 overall record, going 0-3 in conference play.
  • After starting the season with a 34-18 win over New Mexico Highlands, ENMU has lost four straight while allowing 40-plus points in each of the last three games.
  • ENMU ranks next to last in the LSC in both points for (16.2) and points against (35.0).
  • The Greyhounds have also given up the second most rushing yards per game in the conference at 198.2, along with a league-high 14 rushing touchdowns.
  • Kason Martin is the leading passer for the Greyhounds, throwing for 726 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions this season.
  • Isaiah Tate and Howard Russel share the workload on the ground, running for 261 and 198 yards respectively while combining for three touchdowns.
 
LEADING THE NCAA:
For his career, Andrew Pitts is averaging .45 interceptions per game, nearly a pick every two games, which is the highest average for any active player in Division II, and fifth highest in all levels of the NCAA.
 
15TH in DEFENSE:
After holding the Wolves to under 200 yards of offense, the Rams have climbed to the 15th-ranked defense in Division II.
 
CAUSING HAVOC FOR THE OPPOSITION:
The Rams lead the LSC in both sacks and interceptions, recording 19 sacks and nine picks in just five games.
 
QUICK HITS:
  • Nate Omayebu III is second in the LSC in rushing yards with 486 on the season and is third in touchdowns with six.
  • Quarterback Zach Bronkhorst has the second most passing yards in the league with 1,286 on the season.
  • Pitts leads the conference in interceptions (4) and defensive touchdowns (2).
  • The Rams have averaged the second-fewest points allowed this season at 13.8.
