Rambelles Back on the Road to Face Missouri Southern, Ouachita Baptist

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Following a successful 2-0 trip to Colorado, the Angelo State women's basketball hits the road to face two unfamiliar opponents as they matchup with Missouri Southern on Thursday, Nov. 17th at 12 p.m. and Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, Nov 19th at 5 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles picked up two wins at the WCU Conference Challenge, besting MSU Denver 80-75 and Western Colorado 66-51.
  • Sawyer Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week.
  • Payton Brown got off to a hot start as well, averaging 18 points and five rebounds in the first two contests.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant and Madeline Stephens are also averaging double digits, 11.0 and 12.5 points respectively.
  • Lloyd, Brown, McGhee-Pleasant, and Stephens combined to score 127 of the Rambelles' 146 points on the opening weekend, accounting for nearly 87 percent of the offensive production.
  • As a team, the Rambelles shot 41 percent from the field their first weekend, limiting their opponents to just 32 percent.
  • The Rambelles were outrebounded 92-82 in Colorado, but were able to force 40 turnovers while committing only 26.
  • This is the teams first 2-0 start since the 2018-19 season when the Rambelles advanced to the South Central Regional Final.
 
ANGELO STATE vs MISSOURI SOUTHERN
  • The Rambelles and the Lions have only met one time, with the Lions coming away with the 75-72 victory.
  • The Lions enter the contest 4-0 on the season with wins over 23rd ranked Lubbock Christian, Minnesota-Duluth (RV), and Harding (RV).
  • The Lions lost an exhibition game to division one Wichita State by just two points, 72-70 in overtime.
  • Lacey Stokes is a player to keep an eye on, she averages 19 points per game, shooting 37.3 percent from the field.
  • Madi Stokes is another player to look out for, the 6'3 center is averaging a double-double, 14 points and 11.5 rebounds.
  • Missouri Southern was picked to win the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in both the coaches and media polls. The Lions received 159 points and six first place votes from MIAA coaches.
 
ANGELO STATE vs OUACHITA BAPTIST
  • Ouachita Baptist leads the all-time series 2-1, but the Rambelles took the most recent contest 80-73 back in 2002.
  • The Tigers are 1-0 on the season after defeating Champion Christian 97-54 last Friday.
  • Laney Mears and Madeleine Tipton both scored 16 points in the season debut. Tipton is also the teams leading rebounder after pulling down seven boards against Champion Christian.
  • The Tigers had five players score in double figures in the contest.
  • The Tigers were pinned to finish 10th in the Great American Conference (GAC) in their preseason poll after finishing 11th in the conference last season.
