McGhee-Pleasant’s Double-Double Leads Rambelles to First Conference Win

SAN ANGELO, Texas – On an evening that saw junior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant post a huge double-double, the Angelo State women's basketball team earned their first conference win of the season, 72-61 at the Junell Center with point contributions from ten different players.
 
The Rambelles improve to 5-1 on the season and start their conference schedule 1-0. The Javelinas fall to 3-2 on the year and are now 0-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • McGhee-Pleasant got things started for the Rambelles, scoring the five first points of the game.
  • The Javelinas would battle back from the early deficit to take an 11-9 lead before McGhee-Pleasant hit another jumper to tie the game 11-11 with 4:19 remaining in the quarter.
  • Keniah Williams scored her first bucket of the contest that gave the Rambelles a 20-14 lead heading into the second frame.
  • McGhee-Pleasant came out scoring again in the second as she put up four quick points to keep the Rambelles ahead 24-18 with 4:48 before the halftime break.
  • The teams would battle back and forth down the stretch and the Rambelles would take a 30-25 lead into half, led by McGhee-Pleasant's 16 first half points.
  • A triple from McGhee-Pleasant extended the Rambelles lead to 10, 37-27 with 5:33 to go in the third quarter.
  • Sawyer Lloyd and Payton Brown each scored on fast break opportunities down the stretch as the Rambelles took a 51-37 lead into the final frame.
  • Kyla Cobb made a bucket with 6:54 to go in the fourth to extend the Rambelles lead to 16, the largest of the game.
  • The Javelinas fought back and had the lead down to 10, 67-57 with just over a minute left in regulation.
  • Four points by Kenslee Konarik and a layup by Alexandra Bednarczyk put the game to rest with the Rambelles victorious, 72-61.
 
GAME STATS
  • McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers in the contest with 21 points on 9-19 shooting. The Amarillo native also pulled in 12 boards and dished out two assists in 32 minutes of action.
  • Madeline Stephens had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, this her second double-double of the young season.
  • Lloyd was the final double-digit scorer as she posted 10 points, three assists, and five steals in the conference opener.
  • Konarik (3), Cobb (4), and Olivia Pedigo (1) all scored their first points of the season.
  • The Rambelles shot 42 percent from the field in the contest, 27-64 while holding TAMUK to just 35 percent, 18-52.
  • The Blue and Gold dominated the boards, outrebounding the Javelinas 45-29 in the contest, including an 18-7 advantage on the offensive glass.
  • The Rambelles got their largest bench contribution of the season, as the reserves scored 16 points.
  • In dominant fashion, the Rambelles lead for 38:30 of the contest.

The Rambelles are home once again on Dec. 3rd at 1 p.m. to face off with Texas A&M-International who dropped their first conference game tonight against UT Permian Basin 74-68.
