SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 12
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up a series win over Oklahoma Christian on Sunday, defeating the Eagles 16-3 in game four at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
That win improves the Rams to 9-3 overall and in Lone Star Conference play as ASU wins the four-game series over Oklahoma Christian 3-1.
The ball flew off the bat for the Rams on Sunday, scoring five or more runs in three different innings while racking up nine extra-base hits on the day including three home runs.
After two scoring innings by both teams, the Rams jumped out in the third inning as
Jordan Williams got things started with a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Tripp Clark for the first run of the game. After a groundout by
Aaron Walters added another run,
Austin Beck continued his success at the plate, hitting a three-run home run over the left-field wall to give as a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the fourth but the Rams answered again with six more runs in the bottom part of the inning. Clark hit a two-run homer over the left-field wall before Walters tripled to bring in
Jackson Hardy and Williams who both doubled to get on base.
Justin Lee added a run with a double of his own before Clark came back up to the plate with bases loaded, picking up a hit-by-pitch RBI as the Rams batted around the lineup.
Jake Rogers tallied his fourth win of the season as he improves to 4-0 after tossing six innings of work for the Rams. Rogers finished with eight hits and three earned runs while striking out five batters on the day.
Cody Kingman and
Jackson Haga closed out the final inning while combining for no hits and a strikeout.
With an 11-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Rams added five more runs to end the game early. Beck scored Lee on a double to left-center before
Reese Johnson launched a ball over the right-field wall, bringing home three more runs.
Kamden Kelton came in to pinch-hit and picked up an RBI after singling through the left side to bring home
Ryan Neitsch.
Beck finished 3-for-3 from the plate with three runs and four RBIs while Walters, Clark, and Johnson each tallied three RBIs on the day.
The Rams will go back on the road next weekend as they face St. Mary's in a four-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 26.
