Conroe, Texas – The Angelo State softball team opened their season this afternoon as a part of the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational, splitting their games, beating Colorado School of Mines in the opener before dropping their second game to Rogers State.
It only took the Rambelles two innings to score against the Orediggers;
Keilei Garcia led the inning off with a four-pitch walk before advancing to second on a groundout and scoring on a
Bailey Martinez single to right field.
The next inning saw
Ashlyn Lerma lead off with a walk before she would subsequently steal second base. She would cross the plate later in the same at-bat, scoring on a
Lindsey Evans single up the middle. After the bases were cleared on a double play,
Madison Fernandez singled with two outs to extend the inning, scoring on a Garcia homerun to center field, the 10
th homerun of the catcher's collegiate career.
The Rambelles would score again in the fourth, with pinch runner
Haylie Mitchell scoring on a fielder's choice, as well as scoring in the fifth on a throwing error by the Mines' catcher.
The Orediggers would score their lone run in the bottom of the fifth, with a leadoff double eventually scoring on a single.

Torrey Hogan picked up her first win of the season, only allowing one run on five hits while striking out four in 4.2 innings of work. Freshmen
Sierra Schottler and
Ashton McMillan threw the final 2.1 innings in relief, combining to only allow two hits.
In game two, Rogers State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first due to three Rambelle walks and a pair of errors, with the Hillcats only recording one hit. Scoring again in the next inning, the Hillcats held a 5-0 lead until the fourth inning, with Evans leading off with a triple, scoring later in the inning on a groundout.
Facing a 7-1 deficit in the fifth inning, the Rambelles would pull a run back through a
Mykayla Stroud solo home run, the 12
th of her career.
Evans would score on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to put the score at 7-3, where it stood for the remainder of the contest.
Newcomers Evans and Mitchell each recorded two hits against the Hillcats, with the duo responsible for four of the team's six hits.
Genesis Armendariz, who got the start in the circle, gave up four hits and four walks in five innings of work, only allowing two earned runs. Schottler pitched the final two innings in relief, only allowing two hits and a walk in that time.
The Rambelles are 1-1 on the season. They are back on the field tomorrow to take on Southeastern Oklahoma and #16 Southern Arkansas.
