SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's tennis team, riding a five-match winning streak and coming off a weekend of road wins in Oklahoma, grace the ASU Tennis Courts for the first time this season on Thursday as they open both their home schedule as well as their LSC schedule against UTPB.
After that match, the Belles will travel to Wichita Falls to face #21 Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
In the Belles' five-match winning streak, three wins have come by a 6-1 score, sandwiched by a 7-0 win as well as a 5-2 win.
The doubles' pair of
Ayda Guler and
Ramitha Irrinki are 6-0 in doubles play this season, with five of those wins coming at line two, while the line one pairing of
Valentina Gonzalez and
Ena Ovcina are 4-1 this season.
On the singles' side, Irrinki leads the team with a perfect 5-0 record this season, including clinching the match for the Belles in four of their five wins this season.
Dianela Rodriguez follows closely behind Irrinki with a 4-0 record this season, all at line two.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
UT Permian Basin is 1-5 overall on the season, with their lone win coming against NAIA institution Southwest (NM) back on February 12
th; only one of their five losses this season have come against a Division II opponent, with the other four coming against Division I opposition.
The Belles are undefeated against the Falcons in four matches, with their last two wins coming via 7-0 sweeps.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Southwest Baptist, the nation's 21
st-ranked team, are 1-2 on the season, with their lone win coming over LSC school UAFS back on February 19
th.
The Belles and the Bearcats faced each other twice last season, splitting their matches, with the Belles winning on March 5
th last year in Wichita Falls.
