The Rams Open the Series Against TAMIU with a Victory

LAREDO, Texas – The 17th-ranked Angelo State baseball team opened the series against Texas A&M International with a victory, defeating the Dustdevils 11-2 at Jorge Haynes Field on Friday afternoon.
 
The Rams have now won four games in a row as they improve to 18-5 overall and 16-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
After a scoreless first inning by both squads, the Rams jumped ahead with four runs in the second inning. Kamden Kelton singled to bring in Austin Beck for the first run while back-to-back hits by Tripp Clark and Tyler Boggs added two more. Jackson Hardy brought in the final run of the inning on a ground out to third base.
 
Kelton kept up his swing in the third inning, tallying another RBI as he singled to center field to score Aaron Walters, giving ASU a 5-0 lead.
 
The Dustdevils added a run in both the third and fourth innings, scoring on a single and a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-2 after four innings.
 
Benjamin Elder picked up the win, giving up two runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters. He improves to 4-0 on the season. Jack Brinley closed out the game, tossing one inning with not hits.
 
ASU pulled ahead even further in the sixth inning, tallying six runs to go up by nine over the Dustdevils. The Rams added runs off singles by Justin Lee, Reese Johnson, and Tayten Tredaway while Kelton hit a sac-fly, and Koby Kelton scored on a throwing error.
 
The Rams added two more runs in the seventh as Beck forced a bases-loaded walk before Kelton grounded out to bring in the second run.
 
Walters finished with three runs in the game while Kelton finished with two hits and four RBIs to lead the Rams.
 
The Rams and Dustdevils continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
