#6 Rambelles Earn Split with #18 Oklahoma Christian

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Angelo State softball team rebounded from getting swept yesterday by splitting their doubleheader today against #18 Oklahoma Christian. A 2-0 loss to the Eagles preceded a 5-4 win in nine innings for the Rambelles, who end their Oklahoma road trip on a high note.

The Rambelles' offense struggled in game one, only mustering four hits in the contest. Mykayla Stroud was responsible for two of the hits while Keilei Garcia recorded a double and Haylie Mitchell recorded a bunt single from the ninth spot in the lineup.

RBI extra-base hits in the second and third inning proved to be the difference for the hosts in the first game.

Game two saw the Eagles get a one-run lead in the fourth inning through a sacrifice fly; the Rambelles responded with their most successful inning at the plate this weekend with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Singles by Mitchell, Ashlyn Lerma and Lindsey Evans loaded the bases for Paxton Scheurer, who drove in a pair of runs on a single of her own. The Rambelles would score their third run on an error by the Eagles first baseman.

Evans would double in the next inning to drive in another run to make it 4-1 in favor of the visitors.

The Eagles would score on a groundout to make it 4-2 after six before scoring two runs in the seventh to force extra innings.

The Rambelles would score the decisive run on a fielding error by the Eagles' left fielder, which allowed Scheurer, who reached base on a single, to score the winning run.

Genesis Armedariz, who took the loss in game one with a complete-game effort, picked up the win in game two, throwing 3.2 innings in relief of starter Torrey Hogan.

The Rambelles are now 16-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. They return home for next weekend's contests, hosting Eastern New Mexico on Friday and #4 West Texas A&M on Sunday.
