AUSTIN, Texas – The 15
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team continued to play well on the road on Friday, opening the series against St. Edward's with a victory after winning 11-9 in extra innings at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
With the win, the Rams improve to 24-7 overall and 22-7 in Lone Star Conference play while remaining perfect on the road at 13-0.
After three scoreless innings by both squads, the Rams got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning as
Tyler Boggs hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring
Austin Beck on the play.
ASU added to their lead in the next inning, scoring on an error before
Kamden Kelton and
Tayten Tredaway both hit RBI doubles to go up 4-0.
In the sixth inning, the Rams scored on another error before a two-RBI single to center field by
Aaron Walters.
The Hilltoppers got on the board in the bottom of the inning, hitting a three-run homer run to cut the lead to 7-3 in favor of the Rams.
Starting on the mound for ASU was
Benjamin Elder who threw six innings with three runs off seven hits while striking out four batters.
Jackson Haga got the decision to improve to 4-1 on the season, throwing two innings with three runs, one hit, and three strikeouts.
The Rams tallied two more runs in the ninth as Boggs hit a two-run blast over the wall to give ASU a six-run lead heading into the bottom of the frame.
SEU climbed back into the game, forcing bases loaded walks for two runs before tying the game on an inside the park grand slam as the fly ball got past a diving ASU outfielder to force extra innings.
ASU answered back in the 10
th inning as Beck drove in the game-winning run off a bases-loaded hit by pitch while Kelton added another run on a sac-fly to score Walters.
The Rams and Hilltoppers will face each other in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at noon to continue the series.
