SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's tennis team improved to 5-0 on their home courts this season with a 7-0 sweep of conference rivals UT Tyler, also extending their winning streak to six matches.
The doubles side saw
Ramitha Irrinki and
Ayda Guler earn a 6-2 win at line two before the 43
rd-ranked pairing of Leony Deutschmann and Kanika Sivaraman from UT Tyler took the match at line one.
Esther Bowers and
Valentina Gonzalez clinched the doubles point at line three with a 6-4 victory.
Ena Ovcina at line three, Guler at line five, and Irrinki at line six all won their matches in straight sets to clinch the match for the Belles, while
Dianela Rodriguez, Gonzalez, and
Eva Schwartz at lines one, two, and four all collected three-set victories.
Rodriguez's match at line one was particularly tough against the Patriots' Deutschmann, who is ranked 42
nd in the ITA rankings, with all three sets going to tiebreakers.
The Belles improve to 14-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play. On Saturday, they are back in action to host sixth-ranked Central Oklahoma in a non-conference matchup.
