AUSTIN, Texas – The 15
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the sweep over St. Edward's on Sunday, defeating the Hilltoppers 7-4 on the road at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
The Rams remain perfect on the road at 16-0 while improving to 27-7 overall and 25-7 in Lone Star Conference play.
Both teams opened the scoring with solo home runs as
Justin Lee hit one in the first inning for the Rams before SEU answered back in the second.
After a scoreless third inning, the Rams went back on top as
Tayten Tredaway scored on a wild pitch to go up 2-1.
Carson Childers started on the mound for ASU, throwing six innings of work while giving up three runs off eight hits and striking out six batters.
The Hilltoppers tied the game again in the fifth inning before taking the lead in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a triple to make it 3-2.
The lead changed again in the top of the seventh as
Austin Beck forced a bases-loaded walk before Tredaway flew out to center field, scoring
Koby Kelton on the sac-fly.
SEU once again tied the game in the bottom of the inning, hitting an RBI single to make it 4-4.
Jackson Haga threw three innings of relief while picking up the win to improve to 5-1 on the season. He allowed three hits and one run while collecting five punchouts.
In the top of the eight, Kelton regained the lead for the Rams, hitting a two-RBI double to left-center before Walters singled to give the Rams a three-run lead.
Five different Rams tallied an RBI while Walters finished with three hits in the game, and Lee, Kelton, and Tredaway each had two hits.
The Rams will be back at home next weekend as they welcome in West Texas A&M for an important LSC matchup beginning Friday, April 8.
