#14 Rambelles Power Past Pioneers for Doubleheader Sweep

Denton, Texas – The Angelo State softball team wrapped up their weekend by picking up a pair of eight-run victories over Texas Woman's on Sunday, wrapping up the weekend with a 4-0.

Ashlyn Lerma led off game one with a single before stealing second base and scoring the game's first run on an Ashlynn Box single.

An infield single by Lindsey Evans and a Pioneer error loaded the bases for Maleya Burns. They singled in a run to double the Rambelles' lead before Bailey Martinez followed with an RBI single of her own.

Mykayla Stroud walked in a run before Lerma notched her second hit in as many at-bats to drive in two runs and bring the score to 6-0 in the opening frame.

Box lead off the second inning with a single before Madison Fernandez hit her ninth home run to make it 8-0.

Neither team would push across a run for the rest of the contest, with both teams accounting for a combined three hits after the second inning as the Rambelles cruised to a five-inning, run-rule victory.

Genesis Armendariz picked up her second complete-game shutout, allowing only two hits and no walks with six strikeouts in five innings.

Lerma started game two the same way she did in game one, with a single before stealing second and third base. Paxton Scheurer walked, and Box was hit by a pitch to load the bases, with Lerma and Scheurer scoring on an Evans single to give the Rambelles a 2-0 lead.

The next batter, Keilei Garcia, would single in a run to make it 3-0 after the first inning.

Martinez led off the second inning with her first collegiate home run, a solo home run to make it 4-0.

The third inning saw Fernandez lead off by reaching base after being hit by a pitch; Evans doubled to put two runners in a scoring position for Garcia, who would double score both runners.

Stroud would single in another run later in the inning before the Rambelles scored another run on a Pioneer error to make it 8-0.

The Pioneers would score their first run of the game with two outs in the fifth inning to stave off being run-ruled; the Rambelles would score their final run in the seventh inning on a Pioneer error to put the score at 9-1, where it ended.

Torrey Hogan earned her third win in four games with a complete-game effort, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five Pioneers.

The Rambelles improve to 29-7 on the season and 14-6 in conference play; they are back in action against Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville next weekend.
