Laredo, Texas – The Angelo State softball team extended their winning streak to six games today with a sweep of today's doubleheader versus Texas A&M International, winning game one 10-0 in five innings and game two, 8-2.
Game one saw the Rambelles only produce five hits but drew a season-high 11 walks as a team. This season, the 11 walks are the most for an LSC team in a game.
Paxton Scheurer started the scoring in game one with a leadoff solo home run in the third inning for her 20
th home run, the second-most in a season in the program's history.
The Rambelles then drew three consecutive walks to load the bases, setting up a
Keilei Garcia RBI single to double the lead. A
Maleya Burns sacrifice fly scored another run before an
Ashlyn Lerma single would score two more runs.
Ashlynn Box would draw her second walk of the third inning with the bases loaded to drive in another run, making it 6-0.
Madison Fernandez delivered a two-RBI single to finish the scoring for the inning.
A
Lindsey Evans RBI single and an
Ashton McMillan bases-loaded walk saw the Rambelles score a pair of runs in the fifth inning to bring the game to the final score of 10-0.
With her third complete-game shutout,
Genesis Armendariz picked up her 16th win, only allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four Dustdevils.
The Rambelles started the scoring off in game two just like in game one, scoring in the third inning. A pitch hit
Bailey Martinez to start the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Lerma would single to put runners on the corners for Scheurer, who would single in Martinez for the game's first run.
Evans would lead off the fourth inning with a home run, her eighth this season. The Rambelles' centerfielder reached base in all seven of her plate appearances, recording three hits and drawing four walks.
The Dustdevils would pull a run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1.
The fifth inning saw the Rambelles start the frame by loading the bases courtesy of singles by Scheurer and Evans and a walk by Fernandez. In as many games, Garcia delivered her second RBI single to score a run before Martinez cleared the bases with her eighth double of the season to make it 6-1.
Mykayla Stroud would double in Martinez, and Scheurer would drive home the sixth and final run of the inning to make it 8-1. The Dustdevils would score a consolation run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-2, the game's final score.
Torrey Hogan carried a no-hitter through the first three innings of the game, picking up her 13
th win, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three.
The Rambelles improve to 31-7 overall on the season and 16-6 in conference play. They face the Dustdevils in a single game tomorrow, a non-conference matchup that will start at 11 a.m.
