Belles Tennis Pulls Out Gutsy Victory versus Arkansas Tech

Russellville, Ark. – The Angelo State women's tennis team, after nearing four hours of competition, pulled out the road victory against Arkansas Tech on Thursday, winning 4-3 in a match that saw three of the six singles matches go to three sets and two more go to a tiebreaker.

Facing the 44th-ranked doubles team in the country in Arkansas Tech's Lea Grinberg and Daniela Baez, the Belles' Ena Ovcina and Mieke Van Deventer took the match at line one with a 7-6 (7-4) victory.

Ramitha Irrinki/Ayda Guler (line two) and Esther Bowers/Eva Schwartz (line three) helped sweep doubles play, clinching the doubles point for the Belles.

Wins by Arkansas Tech at lines two, three, and four in singles play saw the hosts get on the verge of clinching but wins by Alexandra Vishnevskaya at line six, Ramitha Irrinki at line five, and Dianela Rodriguez at line one saw the Belles come from behind to claim the road victory.

Rodriguez's win came over 65th ranked singles player Grinberg, Rodriguez's second consecutive win over a ranked opponent. This is the first time this season that Rodriguez, the reigning LSC Player of the Week, has clinched victory for the Belles in a match.

Vishnevskaya's win included a tiebreaker in set two for the win, while both Rodriguez and Irrinki won their first set before dropping set two and winning set three to win their matches.

The Belles are now 11-5 on the season and are back in action tomorrow morning against UAFS in a conference match.
