The Rams Finish the 2022 Season with Loss to West Chester

CARY, N.C. – The fifth-seeded Angelo State baseball team saw a historic 2022 season come to an end on Wednesday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, falling to eighth-seeded West Chester 12-2 on day five of the NCAA Division II National Baseball Championship.

The Rams finished with a 51-14 overall record, tying the most wins in a season in program history while making their fifth appearance in the college world series. The record was previously set in the 2007 season when ASU made its first appearance.

West Chester made a statement early, hitting two two-run home runs in the first inning to take an early lead. In the fourth inning, ASU walked the bases loaded before WCU tallied six more runs to make it 10-0.

The Rams tallied their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Jordan Williams led off with a single before coming around to score on a hit to left field by Tripp Clark.

Price Siemering closed the game out for the Rams on the mound, tossing 5 2/3 innings of relief while allowing two runs on four hits. He pitched four straight scoreless innings and collected five strikeouts.

After WCU added two more runs in the top of the ninth, Clark led off the bottom of the frame with a single before Koby Kelton was hit by a pitch to put two on. Austin Beck singled to center to score one run but that would be all the Rams could tally.

ASU finished with 10 hits in the contest, leaving 12 runners on the bases.

The Rams conclude the 2022 season having accumulated the Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament titles along with the South Central Regional title while earning the most wins in 15 seasons.
