#25 Belles Complete Colorado Trip with Win Against Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – The 25th ranked Angelo State women's soccer team kept their foot on the gas pedal as they defeated Colorado State – Pueblo 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Pueblo, Colo.

Grace Jordan opened the scoring for the second consecutive game for the Belles, this time in the 13th minute to give the Blue and Gold the advantage.

"Every team is hoping to find that early goal, it takes a little bit of pressure off," said Belles Head Coach Travis McCorkle. "The opposing team then has to come at you which can open up some spaces and that is how you can get a second goal."

Cindy Rodriguez was able to find some of that space outside the 18-yard box as she doubled Belles advantage three minutes before halftime.

In the 67th minute, Mariah Griffin drove the ball down the left flank and delivered a beautiful cross into the box that found Madison Maxey who increased the Belles advantage to three.

The Thunderwolves pulled one goal back in the 86th minute, scoring from a corner kick. "We need to pick up players a little bit earlier in their runs, and not let them run at us," said McCorkle. "They got a free run in at the goalkeeper, there was a little bit of chaos and the ball ended up in the net."

Kira Miller recorded four saves in the match, allowing only one goal. The Belles had ten shots in the game, six on goal while the Thunderwolves had seven, five on goal

The Belles outscored their opponents 6-1 in their two games this weekend. McCorkle was, "pleased with the quality of some of the chances we got, pleased with how we played. We were able to get a lot of players some time, that helps them getting a little bit more comfortable, more confident. We will need players to be ready to step in and do their part to help get the team more wins."

The Belles begin a crucial four game home stand later this week as they welcome two in region opponents, Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, and Regis on Sunday.
