Late Goal Earns Belles Draw Against Mines

SAN ANGELO, Texas – In an exciting back and forth contest, the Angelo State women's soccer team drew with Colorado School of Mines 2-2 in front of a gold out crowd Thursday evening in San Angelo.

The Belles move to 2-0-1 on the season, having played all three games vs Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents thus far. The Belles outshot the Orediggers 13-12 in the contest.

In a scoreless first half, both goalkeepers were called to action, Kira Miller registered two saves. Cindy Rodriguez tested the Orediggers keeper with the Belles best chance in the first half, but her opportunity was thwarted.

The second half was filled with action and got started early. Katelin Heise had a shot saved in the 48th minute, before scoring the opening goal in the 51st, finishing a rebound from the foot of Rodriguez.

The Orediggers answered just six minutes later through early season standout Reese McDermott, who slotted a goal into the side netting past Miller to tie the match at 1-1.

Reagan Urbany was on a mission Thursday evening, she registered her first shot on goal in the 63rd minute, forcing a save out of the Mines keeper.

Mines would step ahead in the 74th minute behind a goal that ensued from a scramble in the box that found its way into the side netting, putting the visitors ahead 2-1.

Madison Maxey hit the crossbar just a minute later, but the Belles were unable to get the ball into the back of the net.

With the clock winding under ten minutes, the Belles put a heavy press on the Orediggers. Freshman Hadley Coronado received a ball, dribbled past a defender, and found Urbany, who clinically placed one into the left side netting to level the score 2-2.

The teams would finish the game knotted at two following an exciting back-and-forth contest.

The Belles will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 4th at 1 p.m. to face the Regis Rangers at the ASU Soccer Complex.
