#25 Belles Soccer Begins Homestand Against Mines, Regis

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Coming off a 2-0 start to the season, the Angelo State women's soccer team returns home for two pivotal in-region matches against Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, Sept. 1, and Regis Sunday, Sept. 4.

  • ASU opens the season with two consecutive wins for the fourth consecutive year, dating back to the 2018 season.
  • The Belles won their seventh consecutive opening day match 3-0 against Colorado Christian.
  • The Belles enter the season ranked number 25 in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) preseason poll.
  • Seniors Mia Czarnecki and Cassidy Hill were announced as captains for the 2022 campaign.
  • ASU returns 19 of 28 letterwinners from the 2021 season which saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA DII National Tournament.
  • Grace Jordan slotted home two goals in the first two matches, one in each of the two games. She now has seven career goals.
  • Kira Miller earned her first clean sheet of the season against Colorado Christian, the 29th of her career.
  • Miller, the reigning Lone Star Conference goalkeeper of the year, needs 49 saves to break the all-time saves record at Angelo State after making six during the opening weekend. She already holds the Belles all-time shutouts (29) and wins (45) titles.
  • Miller and backline staple Hill were announced as LSC preseason Goalkeeper and Defender of the year, both for the second consecutive season.
  • Head Coach Travis McCorkle enters his 15th season at the helm of the Belles program, looking to add more hardware following the team's second consecutive LSC Tournament Championship.
  • Assistant Coach Harold Muñoz enters his sixth season with the Belles, and Avery McNeme enters the coaching ranks as the Belles graduate assistant following five years on the field.
 
 
ANGELO STATE vs. COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES
  • The Belles and Orediggers have matched up only two times to date, both capturing one victory.
  • The last time the teams played was in San Angelo in 2019 where the Belles took down a then seventh-ranked Orediggers team 1-0.
  • The Orediggers dismantled two top Lone Star Conference opponents in week one, beating Texas Women's 4-0 and Midwestern State 5-0.
  • Mines finished third in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) last season with a 13-5-4 record.
  • The Orediggers leading goal scorer from 2021 returns to form to begin 2022, Reese McDermott, who scored eight goals and registered 18 points in her collegiate debut season, scored a hat trick against Texas Women's to start this season. 
  • Mines was pinned to win the RMAC in their preseason poll. The Orediggers received three first-place votes and 128 points, barely edging out UCCS (125 points) for the poll position.
 
ANGELO STATE vs. REGIS
  • The Rangers hold the all-time series advantage over the Belles, 4-1.
  • The teams met in the 2019 season in San Angelo where the Rangers came away victorious 2-1.
  • Regis went 1-0-1 the first week of the season, handing Midwestern State a 1-0 loss while earning a 1-1 draw against Texas Women's.
  • The Rangers return top goal scorer from a year ago, Kelby Kuo, who scored 15 goals and had eight assists to finish 2021 with 38 points. Kuo saw 121 minutes in the first two games but did not score.
  • Sarah Wynn also returns for the Rangers, she is coming off a four-goal, thirteen-assist 2021 campaign. Wynn had two shots, one on goal in the first two games.
  • Regis finished fourth in the RMAC last season with a 14-6 record, the Rangers were selected to finish seventh in the RMAC preseason poll.
