SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's volleyball team, with their backs against the wall in set five, scored six of the match's last eight points to eke out a five-set victory over Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
Midwestern State held a 14-12 lead in the final set; kills by
Grace White and
Kaila Garnett tied the match before a block by the duo gave the Belles a 15-14 lead. The Mustangs scored the following two points to retake the lead, but a kill by Garnett and a Mustang ball-handling error gave the Belles the lead before a
Jaedyn Woolley service ace clinched the match for the Mustangs.
Cate Boldrick led the Belles with 15 kills in the match. The freshman hit .424 as she committed only one error, and defensively, she recorded six blocks.
Elsa Lamphere followed with 13 kills, the most for the junior in conference play this season. Fellow Coloradoan
Hannah Kinnison notched a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Setter
Kayla Baer assisted 33 times, a new career-high for the freshman. Libero
Caleigh Enax also reached a new career watermark with 30 digs in the match, her second-straight match with a career-high in that category.
Marina Sanchez led with a game-high seven blocks, and teammate
Sydney Mundkowsky blocked six attacks while also contributing nine kills offensively.
The Belles are back at .500 with an 8-8 record on the season; they are one of only two teams in the LSC with a 4-0 record in conference play. The Belles are on the road next weekend, facing West Texas A&M on Friday, who is also 4-0 in LSC play, before taking on Cameron on Saturday.
