Arlington, Texas – The Angelo State women's tennis team wrapped up their weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Regionals, with some Rambelles turning in impressive performances.
Dianela Rodriguez, the top seed in the singles bracket, made it to the semifinals, defeating two seeded opponents in fifth-seeded Anastasia Uspenskaia from Cameron and 14
th-seeded Brooklyn Ross from UT Tyler.
Ayda Guler won her first-round matchup on Thursday before falling in the next round to six-seed Angela Vargas of St. Mary's. At the same time, freshman teammate
Christine Jevicky also won her first match before falling in the next round to 13
th-seeded Anastasiia Khrustaleva from Lubbock Christian.
The tenth-seeded singles player,
Eva Schwartz, won her first two matchups on Thursday before falling in the round of 16 on Friday morning to Ashley Penshorn, the three-seed in the tournament.
In the singles consolation bracket,
Esther Bowers and
Alexandra Vishnevskaya made a run to the finals, with Vishnevskaya picking up a win against DBU's Caroline Hudson, the seventh-seeded player.
In doubles action, Bowers and Schwartz won their first match before falling to the tournament's two-seed; teammates
Ramitha Irrinki and Guler, who were seeded third, made it to the quarterfinals.
The ITA Cup will take place in Rome, Georgia, on October 13-16, with the Rambelles awaiting to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the tournament.
