Six Rams Score in Double Digits as Rams Claim 89-74 Victory

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team continued their winning ways on Thursday night as they claimed an 89-74 over Midwestern State inside the Junell Center.

Only six Rams got on the scoresheet, but all six scored in double figures; the win sees the Rams improve to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play. They sit alone atop the Lone Star Conference West Division and the conference as a whole.

The win is also the ninth-consecutive win for the Rams on their home court, dating back to last season.

A tight back-and-forth affair early on saw the Rams go on a 10-0 run to stretch a two-point lead to 35-23 late in the first half, and despite the Mustangs' best effort to whittle down the lead, the Rams kept at least a five-point cushion to the visitors and held a lead as large as 18 points late in the contest.

For the second game in a row, Kevon Godwin led the Rams with 18 points. The Floridian guard played all 40 minutes for the Rams as he shot 7-of-18 from the field and 4-of-11 from three-point range. Godwin also recorded a career-high five assists; the Rams recorded 15 assists as a team, their third game in a row doing so.

Fredelin De La Cruz recorded his fourth double-double of the season and his first since December 1st with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off the bench, the senior post player shot 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, leading the Rams as they converted 21 of their 24 attempts from the charity stripe.

Reggie Quezada added 16 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of blocks and steals. Willie Guy and Tre Mitchell scored 14 points apiece, and the duo went a combined 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Devaughn Thomas scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench; the Rams bench outscored the Mustang bench 41-16. The Rams also out-rebounded the Mustangs 43-32, with the Rams converting 16 offensive rebounds into 20 second-chance points.

The Rams wrap up their homestand on Saturday when they face Cameron, who is coming off a 102-73 loss at the hands of UT Permian Basin this evening.
