SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team, for the second time this season, complete a perfect 4-0 homestand, capping this stretch of games off with a 73-56 victory over Cameron on Saturday afternoon inside the Junell Center.
The win is the tenth-straight home win for the Rams, dating back to last season. The Rams improve to 13-3 on the season and 9-1 in conference play; the Rams sit alone atop the Lone Star Conference standings.
A tight contest saw the lead change hands 12 times in the first eight minutes before a Rams 12-0 run saw them break a tie and jump out to a double-digit lead. The lead changed hands one more time in the second half, with the Aggies facing a seven-point halftime deficit and starting the half with an 8-0 run to jump out front.
Four made three-pointers over the next 2:18 – including three threes in a row for
Reggie Quezada – saw the Rams reclaim the lead, stretching their advantage to as large as 23 points. The 17-point margin is the third-consecutive win for the Rams by double figures.
For the game, the Rams shot 45.8 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range; they also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Aggies 40-27.
Kevon Godwin led the Rams with 22 points, making five three-pointers; he grabbed five rebounds and assisted four times.
Quezada added 15 points, with all points coming from behind the arc for the New Yorker, also grabbing seven rebounds, and
Fredelin De La Cruz shot 7-of8 from the field to score 14 points and grab six rebounds.
The Rams assisted 20 times this season, their most against a Division II opponent this season. Over the past four games, the Rams have averaged 16.8 assists per game. This season, the Rams average 10.7 assists per game in losses and 14.8 assists per game in wins.
Willie Guy set a new career-high with eight assists while also grabbing three steals. His eight assists are the most for a Ram since
Tyrell Carroll recorded nine assists against West Texas A&M last March.
The Rams kick off a five-game-in-ten-day stretch this weekend on the road, facing St. Mary's and St. Edward's on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
