SAN ANGELO, Texas – On an afternoon that saw the Rambelles shoot just 11 percent from three point range, the Angelo State women's basketball team lost their first contest in nine games to Cameron 61-57 Saturday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
The Rambelles fall to 14-3 on the season and are now 9-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Aggies inch closer to .500, now sitting 8-9 and 5-6 in conference.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The teams battled back and forth to start the game in a slow developing first quarter, tied 7-7 at the 5:08 mark.
- Sawyer Lloyd and Landry Morrow each scored a pair as the Rambelles only put in four points down the stretch and went into the second quarter trailing 15-11.
- Brighton Adams hit a jumper with 6:04 to go before the half to tie things back up 17-17.
- The Rambelles went three minutes scoreless and the Aggies jumped ahead by seven, 24-17.
- Lloyd and Aicha Ndir combined to score six points down the stretch to pull the Rambelles back within one going into the half trailing 26-25.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant scored four straight coming out of the half to give the Rambelles a 29-28 lead early in the third.
- The visitors would regain the lead, going up by four 38-34 at the halfway point in the quarter.
- Late free throws by Lloyd would give the Rambelles a 47-45 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
- The Rambelles fought off the Aggies for the first four minutes, but Cameron retook the lead 52-51 with 6:08 left to play.
- The Blue and Gold fought back and were up three with 3:10 before the final horn.
- Karley Miller hit a clutch triple with 1:28 left to give the Aggies the lead, one they would not relinquish as they downed the Rambelles 61-57.
GAME STATS
- Lloyd led the Rambelles with 20 points as she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her career. She also pulled in eight rebounds, had three assists, a block, and a steal.
- McGhee-Pleasant was efficient Saturday afternoon, scoring 17 points on 7-13 shooting to go along with six boards.
- The Rambelles shot 40 percent from the field and were only 11 percent (1-9) from three-point range.
- The Rambelles struggled from the free throw line, shooting 67 percent (14-21) while Cameron was efficient, going 92 percent from the stripe (11-12).
- The Aggies bested the Rambelles in the rebounding department, grabbing 32 to the Belles' 30.
- The loss snaps the Rambelles eight game winning streak, also ending their 7-0 start at home.
