No. 21 Rams Escape Falcons’ Upset Bid

Odessa, Texas – With three games facing them this week, the Angelo State men's basketball team took on their first game of the week in Odessa against UT Permian Basin; the Rams' lone road game of the week saw them come from behind due to a second-half performance that saw the Rams turn a five-point deficit at the break into a three-point victory over the Falcons.

The Falcons shot 57.7 percent from the field against the Rams in the first half and shot 41.7 percent from three-point range.

Leading by as much as nine points in the second half, the Falcons were relentless in fighting back, trading the lead late with the Rams before the Rams took the lead and held onto it in the game's final 40 seconds.

For the game, Angelo State out-rebounded UTPB 31-28 and forced the Falcons into 14 turnovers.

Kevon Godwin and Fredelin De La Cruz facilitated the Rams' offense in the victory; Godwin scored 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting, making a trio of threes, while De La Cruz scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

An Interdisciplinary Studies major, Godwin scored 30 points in a game for the second time this season and for the first time in conference play.

Tre Mitchell chipped in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.

The Rams improve to 16-3 on the season and 12-1 in conference play; they sit alone atop the LSC standings and are back in action on Thursday when they host Eastern New Mexico, the only team to defeat the Rams in conference play this season.
