SAN ANGELO, Texas – At the conclusion of 40 minutes of back and forth action, the Angelo State women's basketball team made it three wins in a row after defeating Eastern New Mexico 79-74 at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center Thursday evening.
The Rambelles improve to 17-3 on the season and 12-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Greyhounds fall to 8-10 overall and 5-8 in LSC action.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Rambelles and Greyhounds both came hot out of the gates, freshman guard Landry Morrow drained a triple to put the Belles up three, 9-6, with 6:01 to go in the first quarter.
- Another freshman, Keniah Williams made a pair of layups for the Rambelles to keep the Greyhounds at bay, still leading 13-11 with 4:03 remaining in a high scoring first frame.
- Sawyer Lloyd hit a pair of shots down the stretch as the teams stayed tight, closing out the first quarter with the Rambelles ahead just one, 19-18.
- The freshmen contributions continued as Alexandra Bednarczyk made two straight layups to begin the second, putting the Rambelles ahead 23-18 with 8:46 to play before the half.
- Madisen Honea grabbed her own miss and put in a layup to pull the Rambelles ahead by 13, 36-23 with 2:29 left in the quarter.
- Madeline Stephens would put in one more basket for the Rambelles before the break, the Rambelles leading by nine, 38-29.
- Angelo State did not score for the first three minutes of the third quarter before Lloyd hit a triple to bring the Rambelles lead back to 7, 41-34.
- The Lloyd triple was followed by two more Rambelle triples to bring lead back up to 13, 47-34, with five and a half remaining in the quarter.
- Williams made three blocks and a layup down the stretch as the Rambelles took a 57-43 lead into the fourth.
- A Stephens triple put the Rambelles ahead by 18, 64-46, with 8:32 remaining in the contest.
- The Greyhounds would chip away at the lead and were within striking distance with 5:01 to go, down only eight, 71-63.
- The Rambelles scored only two points in the next three and a half minutes as the Greyhounds came within three, 73-70, with a 1:39 remaining.
- Both teams would get to the free throw line in the final minute, as the Rambelles saw a 79-74 victory over the line.
GAME STATS
- Lloyd was the games leading scorer with 20 points. She earned her sixth double-double of the season as she pulled in 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.
- Stephens earned her fifth double-double of the season as she finished the contest with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had 12 points and four rebounds as she struggled with foul trouble for most of the contest.
- Williams had a great game off the bench, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, and a game high four blocks.
- The Rambelles made a season high 10 triples, shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, their fourth best shooting performance of the season from deep.
- The Rambelles shot 45 percent from the field, but again struggled from the charity stripe, going 11-18, 61 percent.
- A complete performance was turned in offensively by the Blue and Gold as they registered 21 assists and had 16 points off the bench.
- ENMU did grab a slight advantage on the boards in the contest between the two top rebounding teams in the LSC, pulling down 45 to the Rambelles 42.
