LSC’s Top Three Offenses Set to Square off in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas – After securing two wins in the Land of Enchantment, the Angelo State women's basketball team gears up for their first home contests in the New Year as West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian are set to head to San Angelo on Thursday and Saturday respectively.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles went 2-0 last week, defeating Western New Mexico 54-50 and Eastern New Mexico 73-63, bringing their winning streak to five in a row.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 15.8 points per game currently ranks third most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Sawyer Lloyd and Madeline Stephens also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 15.2 and 14.2 points per game respectively.
  • Lloyd has her mark all over the conference this season, ranking top five in several different statistical categories: scoring, 15.2 points per game (5th), rebounding, 8.2 per contest (5th), assists, 4.8 per game (3rd), assist-turnover ratio, 2.0 (2nd), steals, 2.8 per game (1st), minutes, 34.7 per game (4th).
  • Lloyd also ranks top ten in both field goal percentage, .399 (8th) and free throw percentage, .825 (9th). She is just 38 points away from eclipsing 1,000 points in her career, currently sitting with 962.
  • Both Stephens and McGhee-Pleasant also have their footprints in the top ten in multiple categories. Stephens ranks second in the LSC in field goal percentage (.559), seventh in rebounding (7.8), and ninth in scoring (14.2) while McGhee-Pleasant is third in scoring (15.8), sixth in rebounding (8.1), and sixth in field goal percentage (.444).
  • The Rambelles are averaging 72.5 points per game, shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 70.2 percent from the free throw line.
  • The 72.5 points per contest is the top mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 63.1 points a game (11th in the LSC).
  • The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, leading the conference averaging 45 boards per game.
  • Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
  • Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
  • McGhee-Pleasant scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
  • Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
  • Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
 
ANGELO STATE vs WEST TEXAS A&M
  • The Lady Buffs head to San Angelo winners of their last two contests after defeating Midwestern State and Cameron at home.
  • WTAMU has only two losses on the season to No. 9 Tampa 67-51 and to Texas A&M-Kingsville 71-60 on the road.
  • The Lady Buffs have dominated the all time series with the Rambelles, holding a 64-26 record that includes five straight wins.
  • WTAMU hosts the number two offense in the LSC, averaging 72.2 points per game, while also ranking number one defensively, holding opponents to just 58.4 points.
  • Karley Motschenbacher leads a balanced offensive attack for WT, she scores 12.2 points per game while also pulling in a team-high 7.1 boards.
  • Including Motschenbacher, the Lady Buffs have nine players who average at least five points per contest.
 
ANGELO STATE vs LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
  • The Lady Chaps make their way to San Angelo currently on a three-game winning streak, but will play UT Permian Basin on Thursday before heading to San Angelo.
  • LCU is 10-4 on the season and three of their four losses have been to ranked/receiving votes opponents.
  • The Lady Chaps only conference loss was early in the LSC schedule to Texas A&M-International in Laredo.
  • The Lady Chaps have also dominated the Rambelles all time, holding a 15-4 record over the Blue and Gold and have been winners of 11 of the last 12 meetings between the two sides.
  • The Lady Chaps have the third ranked offense in the LSC, averaging 72.1 points per contest.
  • Much like the Rambelles, the Lady Chaps have three players who average over ten points per game, led by Grace Foster's 15.6 points and LSC leading 9.5 rebounds.
  • Audrey Robertson and Maci Maddox also score double figures, contributing 11.3 and 11.1 points respectively.
