SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State football team earned a victory at home on Saturday, defeating Midwestern State 27-12 at LeGrand Stadium at 1
st Community Credit Union Field.
With the win, the Rams improved to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the Lone Star Conference with one week remaining in the regular season.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Rams got on the board as
Bradley Larson kicked a 23-yard field goal for the first score in the game.
Later in the quarter,
Kason Philips caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from
Braeden Fuller to give the Rams a 10-point lead.
The Rams took a 17-0 lead into the halftime break after
Demetrias Charles blocked a punt attempt by the Mustangs before returning it 20 yards for the score.
ASU held the Mustangs to 254 total yards of offense, including 85 through the air while tallying 423 yards and 349 passing yards.
The Rams scored the lone touchdown in the third quarter with 1:41 on the clock as
Gerald Gardner found
Kel Williams in the endzone on a 20-yard completion. Gardner finished with 334 passing yards on 19-of-28 attempts.
Kyle Bradford led the Rams in receiving, collecting 155 yards on four catches followed by
Zorhan Rideaux with 82 yards on six catches.
In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs found their first points of the game, scoring on a six-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-6.
Larson converted his second field goal attempt of the game later in the fourth, making it from 29 yards out.
MSU scored their final touchdown with under a minute to play, running the ball in from the one-yard line.
Andrew Pitts and
Jordan McKinney led the Rams defensively with seven tackles each followed by
Eric Rascoe with six. Pitts also added two tackles for loss on the night.
The Rams are back at home for the final game of the regular season as they host Western New Mexico on senior day on Saturday, Nov. 11.
