SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team jumped out to a hot start against UAFS on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, scoring the contest's first 13 points and 22 of the first 27 points to open their home Lone Star Conference schedule with a 75-59 win.

Six three-pointers by Kevon Godwin and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, who hit three each, highlighted the early scoring barrage for the Rams, with 11 of Godwin's game-high 23 points coming in the first 7:35 of action.

The Rams shot 47.6 percent from the field for the game and out-rebounded the Lions 40-38.

Godwin shot 10-for-17 from the field, grabbing five rebounds and a game-high three steals.

Trey Farrer scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds; defensively, he blocked a pair of shots and nabbed a pair of steals.

Embery-Simpson scored 11 points as the graduate student guard battled foul trouble; he, Godwin, and Carvell Teasett each assisted three times, with the Rams recording an assist on 14 of their 30 field goals.

DJ Freeman led the team's rebounding effort with 11 rebounds, a new single-game high for the Rams this season. Freeman also rejected a pair of Lions shots.

The Rams improve to 6-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in LSC play; under head coach Vinay Patel, the Rams improve to 15-0 on their home court under Patel's leadership.

The Rams close out their weekend on Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Christian, who are coming off a loss tonight in Odessa against UT Permian Basin.
