Strong Second Half Sees Rams Soar Past Eagles

SAN ANGELO – Four Rams – Willie Guy, Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, Trey Farrer, and Carvell Teasett – scored in double figures as the Angelo State men's basketball team extended their winning streak to six games with an 86-76 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

The Eagles hit a buzzer-beater from beyond the half-court line to make the score 41-39 at the break in favor of the Rams; the Rams responded by shooting 51.7 percent from the field after the intermission.

The crucial run for the Rams proved to be an 11-0 in a 4:21 span in the second half that saw the score go from 57-56 to 68-56 in favor of the Rams.

The Rams' defense held the Eagles in check, holding them to 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point range. The Rams also forced the Eagles into 12 turnovers while only committing seven of their own.

For the first time as a Ram, Guy broke the 20-point mark as he led all players in scoring. The Rams' point guard's 20 points came on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting effort from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range. The senior made all seven of his free-throw attempts as the Rams shot a season-high 29 free throws today.

Embery-Simpson scored 18 points, hitting three threes, while Farrer added in 11 points and four rebounds, and Teasett had ten points in 17 minutes off the bench, making a trio of three-pointers.

Kevon Godwin scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, assisted six times, and nabbed a pair of steals; teammate DJ Basey flirted with a double-double, scoring eight points and securing eight rebounds in 20 minutes of work off the bench.

The Rams improve to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in LSC play; they are one of two teams to be 4-0 in LSC play, with the other being Eastern New Mexico. Head coach Vinay Patel improves to 16-0 inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, and the Rams close out their homestand on Tuesday afternoon against UT Permian Basin, who are coming off a double-digit victory over UAFS this afternoon.
