Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Rambelles to Victory Over Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After trailing by seven going into the final quarter, the Angelo State women's basketball team got hot late scoring 33 points in the fourth to down Midwestern State on the road 76-61 in Wichita Falls Saturday afternoon.
 
 
The Rambelles improve to 20-5 on the season and are now 15-4 in Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs fall to 5-20 on the year and 3-16 in LSC play.
 
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant got things started on the afternoon for the Rambelles, converting on a three-point play to put the Blue and Gold ahead 3-2.
  • Landry Morrow hit a deep triple to give the Rambelles a 9-6 lead at the 5:08 mark in the first.
  • The Rambelles went cold after the Morrow triple, going scoreless for four minutes, allowing Midwestern State to take a 15-13 lead into the second.
  • Madeline Stephens and Sawyer Lloyd made buckets to tie things up 17-17 with 7:35 remaining in the first half.
  • Midwestern State would then go on a, 8-2 run to pull ahead by six, 25-19 with just under five minutes left in the quarter.
  • Kyla Cobb scored four straight for the Rambelles down the stretch as the Mustangs took a 31-25 lead into the halftime break.
  • McGhee-Pleasant scored ten straight points for the Rambelles to open up the third quarter, pulling Angelo State level, 37-37 with 6:21 to go.
  • The Mustangs responded with another 10-3 run to put the lead back to seven, 47-40 at the 2:31 mark in the third.
  • Lloyd hit a triple as the clock expired in third to end another four-minute scoreless streak for the Rambelles as the Mustangs took a 50-43 lead into the final frame.
  • The Rambelles fell behind by nine, but answered with a 9-0 run in the fourth to bring tie the game up once more 55-55 with 6:40 to go.
  • McGhee-Pleasant, Lloyd, and Stephens made consecutive buckets as the Rambelles pulled ahead 63-57 with 4:30 left in the contest.
  • Morrow would lead a 13-4 run to close out the game with the Rambelles comfortably the victors, 76-61.

  • McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers as she recorded a huge double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds, which ties her career high.
  • Lloyd joined McGhee-Pleasant, scoring 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists.
  • Morrow scored a career high 16 points that included 13 crucial points in the fourth quarter.
  • Stephens rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Rambelles with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists.
  • The teams were within one percentage point shooting, with the Rambelles shooting 36 percent to the 37 percent of the Mustangs.
  • The Rambelles biggest advantage was their 74 shots to the 59 of the Mustangs.
  • The Blue and Gold scored 17 points on the fast break to go along with 17 assists in the contest.
  • The Rambelles trailed by seven, 50-43 entering the fourth where they outscored the Mustangs 33-11 to take home their first win in their last three games.

The Rambelles return home to end the season with three straight contests, first facing the fourth-ranked Texas Woman's Pioneers on Thursday, Feb. 16th at 5:30 p.m. at the Stephens Arena/Junell Center.
