TYLER, Texas – The No. 2-ranked Angelo State baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader against UT Tyler, winning game one 4-0 before falling 2-1 in game two at Irwin Field.
With the split, the Rams are now 12-3 overall and in the Lone Star Conference.
GAME ONE: ASU 4, UTT 0
The Rams tallied the first runs of the game in the fourth inning as
Jacob Guerrero singled through the right side to score
Jackson Hardy before
Tayten Tredaway earned a walk with the bases loaded for the second run.
Kade Bragg held the Patriots scoreless, starting on the mound for ASU, pitching all seven innings while allowing only one hit and striking out nine batters.
The Rams added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning as
Justin Harris singled for an RBI before
Jordan Williams hit a sac-fly to right field to make it 4-0.
Guerrero finished with a hit, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
GAME TWO: UTT 2, ASU 1
The Patriots took an early lead after scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run over the left field wall.
UTT added another run in the fifth, singling to third base for an RBI to make it 2-0.
Braxton Pearson started on the mound for the Rams, tossing six innings of work with two runs off four hits while tallying nine strikeouts.
In the seventh inning, the Rams brought in a run as
Weston Valasek singled to the short stop to score Guerrero on the play.
The Rams and Patriots close out the series on Sunday afternoon with game four scheduled for 1 p.m.
