No. 5 Rams Open 2023 with a Victory Over ENMU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The fifth-ranked Angelo State baseball team opened the 2023 baseball season with a victory, defeating Eastern New Mexico 11-1 in seven innings at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

The Rams jumped out ahead against the Greyhounds as Tripp Clark hit a bases-clearing double to score three runs for ASU.

With bases loaded for ENMU in the top of the second inning, Angelo State starting pitcher Aaron Munson got out of the jam with a flyout and two strikeouts to keep the Greyhounds off the board.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Greyhounds found their first run of the game, hitting a solo home run over the left-field wall. ASU answered back in the bottom of the inning, adding two more runs on a single by Jackson Hardy and a ground out by Jordan Williams to make it 5-1.

The Rams pulled away in the bottom of the fifth as Thomas Cain, Justin Harris, and Williams all hit a home run, including a two-run shot by Williams to take a 10-1 advantage.

Munson finished the day tossing six innings with only four hits and one run while striking out seven batters to pick up the first victory of the season.

ASU added one more run in the sixth as Harris flew out to bring home Tayten Tredaway for the final run of the game.

Freshman pitcher Jude Cook closed out the game for ASU, tossing one inning with no runs off of one hit and two strikeouts.

Jackson Hardy was perfect on the day, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored while Williams and Clark each finished with three RBIs.

The Rams and Greyhounds will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
