No. 20 Rambelles Fall to Lady Buffs in Canyon

CANYON, Texas- After scoring only 19 points in the first half, the Angelo State women's basketball team was unable to overcome the early deficit, falling 80-64 to the Lady Buffs in Canyon.
 
The Rambelles fall to 19-4 on the year and are now 14-3 in LSC action. The Lady Buffs improve to 18-6 and 11-5 in conference play.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Madeline Stephens hit a triple to give the Rambelles an early 7-5 lead on the road in Canyon, still 5:08 to go in the first.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant put in two more for the Rambelles as they struggled in the final five minutes of the first quarter, scoring only two points, allowing the Lady Buffs to surge ahead 11-9 going into the second.
  • The Lady Buffs scored six straight to start the second, stretching their lead to eight, 17-9 early in the quarter.
  • McGhee-Pleasant hit a triple, but the home team responded, going on another scoring run to pull ahead by 13, 25-12 with 5:31 before the half.
  • Freshmen Alexandra Bednarczyk and Keniah Williams each scored to finish a quarter to forget for the Rambelles as WT stretched their lead to 17 going into the break up 36-19.
  • The Lady Buffs increased the advantage to 21 early in the third before McGhee-Pleasant, Sawyer Lloyd, and Landry Morrow each made contributions to chip into the lead.
  • Six straight points by Stephens pulled Angelo State within 12, trailing 48-36 with three and a half in the quarter.
  • West Texas A&M would then go on a 12-5 run to close out the quarter, taking a 60-41 lead into the final frame.
  • McGhee-Pleasant hit a layup with just under five minutes to go, again bringing the Rambelles back within 12, trailing 69-57.
  • Lloyd hit a late jumper, but the Rambelles could not get within 10 and lost their first in their last six games 80-64.
 
GAME STATS
  • Stephens led the way for the Rambelles earning her sixth double-double of the year with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.
  • McGhee-Pleasant earned double-double number seven on the year with a big day as well, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Lloyd had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals in the contest.
  • The Lady Buffs dominated the glass, outrebounding the Rambelles 48-39 in Canyon.
  • The Rambelles shot 32.9 percent from the field, while the Lady Buffs went 25-64, 39.1 percent.
  • The free throw line proved a huge difference in the contest with the Rambelles going 13-17 while WT went 22-27 from the charity stripe.
  • The loss snaps the Rambelles second five game winning streak of the season.
 
NEXT UP
The Rambelles continue on their four-game road trip, heading to Lawton, Okla. for a Thursday evening contest against the Cameron Aggies, who bested the Belles at home earlier in the year.
