Rambelles Season Comes to a Close After Second Round Loss to UT Tyler

SAN ANGELO, Texas – At the conclusion of the second semifinal of the South Central Regional, the Angelo State women's basketball team found themselves on the wrong side of a back-and-forth affair, losing to UT Tyler 71-61 Saturday night at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had things going early on as she drained a triple to put the hosts ahead 7-3 with 5:14 to go in the first.
  • McGhee-Pleasant scored four more before Sawyer Lloyd made a layup that saw the Rambelles lead 14-11 as the first quarter concluded.
  • Lloyd, McGhee-Pleasant, and Madeline Stephens all scored for the Rambelles to begin the second, jumping ahead five, 24-19.
  • Keniah Williams made a layup off a Lloyd dish before McGhee-Pleasant drained another triple as the Rambelles lead ballooned to 10, 29-19.
  • The Patriots chipped and chipped away, hitting shots down the stretch to pull back within three, 34-31 as the first half ended.
  • UT Tyler would come out hot in the third, scoring 13 straight in the first four minutes to jump ahead by 10, 44-34.
  • Landry Morrow hit a triple as the Rambelles cut the lead to six, 47-41 at the 3:40 mark.
  • Williams would drain one more layup as the Rambelles went into the final frame trailing six, 54-48.
  • Morrow made five straight as the Rambelles worked their way back within one, 54-53 with 8:49 remaining in the contest.
  • The Patriots once more went on a run, this time 5-0 to pull back ahead 59-53 with 5:07 remaining in the South Central Regional semifinal.
  • The visitors once again pushed their advantage to ten, 67-57, after a pair of triples at the 2:39 mark.
  • UTT would hit free throws to keep the Blue and Gold's comeback bid at bay, defeating the hosts, 71-61.
 
GAME STATS
  • McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers with 23 points on an efficient 8-12 shooting including 4-7 from deep.
  • Lloyd finished with a double-double as she scored 12 points, pulled in 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists.
  • Morrow had 10 points in 36 minutes to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
  • Stephens struggled with foul trouble most of the game, finishing with six points and three rebounds.
  • Williams also had six points and a rebound off the bench in just eight minutes.
  • Madisen Honea impacted the game in several ways, hitting a triple, pulling in three rebounds, and being active defensively.
  • The Rambelles shot 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep, but struggled defensively as the Patriots would shoot 44 percent and 38 percent from three.
  • The teams each pulled in 33 rebounds as the Rambelles had 14 assists and four blocks.
