LUBBOCK, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team earned a series sweep over Lubbock Christian on Sunday, defeating the Chaps 18-7 in game four at Hays Field.
The Rams improved to 30-4 overall on the year and 28-4 in Lone Star Conference play, picking up their fifth sweep of the season.
After both teams tallied two runs in the first inning, the Rams took the lead in the second after
Justin Harris doubled down the left-field line to score
Austin Beck.
The Rams pulled ahead in the fourth, collecting six runs to go up 9-2. After scoring on a wild pitch, Harris brought in the second run of the inning with another double while
Jordan Williams tallied three RBIs with a double of his own down the left-field line.
Hunter Mayo started on the mound for ASU, tossing three hits with three runs off of three hits and two strikeouts. Picking up the win was
Jackson Berry who improved to 1-0 on the season after throwing two 2/3 innings in relief with two runs on fourth hits.
In the fifth inning, ASU collected four more runs, capped off by a two-RBI hit from
Thomas Cain to make it 13-3.
Harris picked up his third RBI of the game in the sixth, hitting a single to right field before
Reese Johnson brought him home on a hit down the line.
In the seventh,
Kamden Kelton singled to left field to score
Tripp Clark while Beck brought in two runs on a home run to left center.
The Rams will have next weekend off, returning to action on April 6 against Texas A&M International at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
