Silver City, New Mexico – The Angelo State softball team snapped their losing skid on Friday afternoon in the second game of their doubleheader against Western New Mexico; the Rambelles dropped the first game against the Mustangs 7-2 before rebounding to win game two 11-3 in a six-inning, run-rule victory.
The hosts scored a run in the first inning of game one to take the lead before the Rambelles tied it up in the fourth inning courtesy of a
Keilei Garcia sacrifice fly before a
Lindsey Evans RBI single in the fifth gave the Rambelles a 2-1 lead.
However, four runs in the fifth inning saw the Mustangs retake the lead before two more runs in the sixth locked in the 7-2 result.
The Rambelles kicked off the scoring in game two with an Evans two-run home run; however, the Mustangs would strike for three runs to reclaim the lead.
Evans led off the third inning with a walk to set up Paxton Scheuer, who delivered a two-run home run of her own to send the Rambelles into the lead.
Tatiana Trotter led the fourth inning off with a solo home run; Evans and Scheuer would hit back-to-back solo home runs in the same inning to make the score 7-3.
This is the second time Evans and Scheuer have had multi-homer games in the same game, also on March 18th of last year against UT Permian Basin.
Ashton Dirner would hit a homer the next inning to make it 8-3, and the Rambelles would score three runs in the sixth off Mustang errors to make it 11-3.
The Rambelles' six home runs are the most they have tallied in a single game this season.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up the win, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10 Mustang batters.
The Rambelles are now 23-17 on the season and 15-14 in conference play; the rubber match between the two teams will take place tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT.
